OBJ Warns Over Millitary Take Over As Buhari's Fate On Certificate Saga Will Be Decided Tomorrow

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo warns today on military take over ,a day before APC candidate  General Muhammad  Buhari ( rtd) fate o. Certificate saga will me decided by the court.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned against a military government in Nigeria, saying such move will undermine the integrity of the country in the comity of nations.
Mr. Obasanjo gave the warning when the wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Aisha Buhari, led South West Women of the party to his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The former leader said he was happy Nigeria has gone beyond the rumour of Interim National Government.
‪”I do hope we will get things more right. A lot of rumours are flying around, I think we have gone away from the rumour of Interim Government because that is not in our constitution,” Mr. Obasanjo said. “I hope we will soon go away from the rumour of handing over to the military because the military is not meant to run affairs of a nation in terms of running government.”
Ahead of Saturday’s presidential election, there have been speculations about a possible military intervention, and the formation of an Interim National Government in Nigeria.
Denials by President Goodluck Jonathan that his government is not planning to surrender power to an interim body, should the opposition win, have not totally doused those fears.
Prominent lawyer, Femi Falana, said on Sunday that there were still no indications the elections will go forward. He warned against a coup d’etat.
Mr. Obasanjo said the international community especially the African Union will not accommodate or recognise any government that emerges outside Nigeria’s constitution.
“The intentional community will not condone it, particularly African Union. We have said and it is part and parcel of the constituting act of the African Union. Any government that is not brought about on the basis of the constitution will not be accepted, will not be tolerated and will not be a member of the AU until that government is dismantled,” he said.
‪Mr. Obasanjo said Nigeria has all it takes to dictate the pace for other countries in Africa, adding that Nigerians should blame themselves for where it is today.
‪”We are the largest country in Africa, we should be a model, setting examples, we shouldn’t be drawing Africa backward. I hope we will not. I hope at the end of this exercise, we would be where we should be, leading Africa and showing examples for the rest of Africa and indeed the rest of the world.
‪”We have the goodwill of many people. I watched, last night, President Obama talking about our constitution, I watched our brother from Ghana, the current Chairman of ECOWAS talk about our constitution, they are all interested, they all wish us well, should we wish ourselves anything less?”
‪ Mr. Obasanjo said political parties should focus more on what unites the country and avoid hate campaigns. ‪He said anyone who is interested in the future of Nigeria should focus on issues of insecurity, economy, employment.
‪‪”How are we going to get them, what are we going to do, not trivial issues of certificate, no certificate, not trivial issues of when somebody are talking about someone is a Nigerian and not a Nigerian.
Mrs. Buhari, who had earlier embarked on a rally in company of all wives of APC Governors in the country at Moshood Abiola Stadium in the town, thanked Mr. Obasanjo for being what she described as a true nationalist, saying that he acted beyond party level while solving issues affecting the country.
‪”Baba exercises his prowess as a father, as a former head of state of Nigeria twice. Very few Nigerians have the opportunity to rule the country twice, we are here today to show our appreciation the way you handle things as a statesman and also a nationalist.
‪”We thank you so much for acting beyond party in getting things right, thank you for that, may you live long to continue solving out problems,” she said.

2015 Polls: Police Issues Restriction Order

The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba has issued an order on the restriction of movement ahead of the presidential election slated for March 28 and has appealed to Nigerians to cooperate with the police.

In a statement issued by Emmanuel Ojukwu, Force Public Relations Officer, Abuja, he said: “As part of efforts to ensure adequate security in the forthcoming general elections across all the Federation on Saturday 28 March, 2015 and 11 April, 2015, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba, has ordered the restriction of vehicular movements as follows: Saturday 28th March, 2015, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. only and Saturday 11 April, 2015 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. only.

He noted that: “this total restriction of movements order applies to all, except for Ambulances, Fire service trucks and others on essential duties.

“Consequently, travellers and citizens who intend to use roads on these days and hours are advised to plan alternative times for their travelling,” the statement said.

While expressing his regrets over the inconveniences that road users and the general public may encounter as a result of this restriction, the IGP “appeals for the understanding and cooperation of the entire citizenry, as the restriction is done in the nation’s interest.”

“The IGP assures that adequate security logistics and manpower have been strategically deployed to achieve a most conducive electioneering atmosphere. In this regard, policemen for election duty have been properly trained, briefed and sensitized on their roles as stipulated in the Electoral Act.”

“They are expected to be professional, non-partisan, civil but firm in their approach and relation to the public.”

He enjoined citizens to remain vigilant and report all suspicious movements or dealings to appropriate police authority.

Decamped Rivers Deputy Governor Declares War On APC, Says Blood Spillage Is Allowed

The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, on Monday asked the Peoples Democratic Party faithful to fight and redeem the state from the All Progressives Party, even if it means shedding their blood.

Rivers State Deputy Gov. Tele Ikuru
Mr. Ikuru made the call in Port Harcourt to a crowd of PDP supporters who turned out to welcome him after his defection from the APC.

“It is necessary for the sake of your fathers, for the sake of your mothers, for the sake of your brothers and sisters and for the sake of your children, every Rivers man must stand up to fight this evil among us,” Mr. Ikuru said. “If it demands your blood, so be it.”

The deputy governor also told the PDP supporters how his friend and boss, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, deceived him into leaving the party in 2013.

According to him, Mr. Amaechi made him to believe that joining the APC was the new order.

“I was deceived, I must confess,” he said. ” I was told that it was a new order. I did not know that it was all about the ambition of an individual. I say big thank you to you all PDP members because, when I was deceived out of PDP, if all of you had not stood your ground to keep the party alive, where would I have returned to?

“In our darkness, we thought that we were in the right place. What is happening in Rivers State today will haunt all of us if we allow it to go unchallenged.”

He announced that his supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state have agreed to dump the ruling APC.

Mr. Ikuru, who said genuine peace will return to the state after the March 28 presidential election, introduced some of his top supporters who defected with him including the former Deputy Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Victor Ere, APC Secretary in Andoni Local Government Area, Kingston Silvanus, amongst others.

Meanwhile, a source has told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Ikuru has started moving things out of his official quarters barely two days after he dumped APC for the PDP.

The embattled deputy governor is said to have started moving his personal belongings from his Old GRA official residence on Monday night.

According to the source, Mr. Ikuru is moving to his personal house located in Eagle Island, one of the water locked areas of Port Harcourt city.

“We saw people moving things out of the residence in the night and it is likely he is moving back to his personal house,” the source said.

The deputy governor might have decided to flee from his official residence to forestall being thrown out by Governor Amaechi.

Mr. Amaechi was sacked from his official quarters in 2007 when he would not yield to the PDP’s decision to replace him with his cousin, Celestine Omehia, as the PDP governorship candidate for that year’s election.

Mr. Amaechi was the speaker of the state house of assembly from 1999 – 2007 and was tipped to take over from the then Governor, Peter Odili.

However, during the PDP’s South-South zonal rally in Port Harcourt, former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, told party faithful that the gubernatorial ticket Mr. Amaechi won during the primary had a “K-leg”.

Instead of handing Mr. Amaechi the party’s flag, it was given to his cousin, Mr. Omehia, in a move that pitched the two brothers against each other.

When Mr. Amaechi challenged the party’s decision in court, his boss, Mr. Odili, immediately ordered security operatives to throw his personal belongings out of the speaker’s official residence.

The spokesperson for the Deputy Governor, Edna Alete, declined comment when PREMIUM TIMES contacted on whether or not Mr. Ikuru has moved out of his official residence.

Buhari Suffers Setback As Atiku's Camp Joins Jonathan

Barely eleven days before Nigerians head to the polls, a total of 120 groups loyal to former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar have decamped to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

The decampees were received by Uche Secondius, deputy national chairman of PDP, The Cable reports.

A reception to welcome them to the camp of President Goodluck Jonathan was held for them at at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

Report of their planned defection had surfaced on Monday.

According to Nigerian Tribune report, Mr Peter Ogar, the national coordinator of Renaissance for Socio-political Transformation of Nigeria, who spoke on behalf of the group during a press conference at the weekend, said the groups were convinced that there was no viable alternative to President Goodluck Jonathan.

“Having understood the event of December 10, 2014, wherein our able leader, the Turakin Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was through a gang up denied us and indeed Nigerians the chance to have a true option in the forthcoming presidential election.

“Accordingly, we had to take time to analyse the inner workings of the current administration under President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and came to the conclusion that outside the Turaki, there is no better candidate within any opposition political party, hence the need for a rethink and strategic political repositioning for the sake of destiny of our great country, Nigeria.

“It is on this premise that we are today announcing our plans to declare in a grand style, the shift in allegiance and support from the old order to a more purposeful and result oriented leadership as a better alternative in the next civilian transition hence our wholehearted declaration of support for President Jonathan in the forthcoming presidential election in the country as we are deeply convinced that he has the expertise, patriotism and national zeal to move the country to the next level,” Ogar said.

Earlier, report had surfaced that Jonathan held a secret meeting with Atiku at his home in Yola, Adamawa state capital, in a bid to woo him and his supporters.

Rumours emerged last week that Atiku, who had previously dumped the PDP for the APC, was under pressure to return to the ruling party. He denied the rumour and reinstated his commitment to the opposition party.

Atiku has not been participating actively in the APC campaigns rallies. He has however continued to pledge his loyalty to the party.

The PDM, a political group formed by Atiku was said to have endorsed President Jonathan, the PDP presidential candidate. But in a swift reaction, the PDM debunked the report, saying they had already endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Gen Muhammadu Buhari.

OPC Factions Clashed Over Jega

Anti-Jega Protest
Following Monday’s protest by the Oodua Peoples’ Congress, OPC, factions within the group have risen up to dissociate themselves from the call for removal of Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Following Monday’s protest by the Oodua Peoples’ Congress, OPC, factions within the group have risen up to dissociate themselves from the call for removal of Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

OPC/PDP/Nollywood anti-Jega protests in Lagos yesterday
Sahara Reporters Media
The Gani Adams’ faction of the OPC, accompanied by members of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization, took to the streets in Lagos to demand the removal of the INEC boss ahead of the March 28 general elections.

Mr. Adams said the rally was not partisan, but a call for Mr. Jega to be removed from office.

“What we protested for was the removal of Jega over the poor distribution of PVCs in the south, registration of underage in the north and creation of additional 30,000 polling units in the north,” Mr. Adams told PREMIUM TIMES after the protest.

The OPC members, armed with guns, pocket-knives, machetes, and charms marched from the Lagos-Ibadan expressway through Ikorodu road chanting anti-Jega songs.

Some of protesters harassed motorists and passers-by while others vandalized campaign posters of political parties, particularly those of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Last Friday, the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, held similar protests across the South Eastern states of Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi where they accused Mr. Jega of incompetence.

On Sunday, the APC claimed it had uncovered a plot by the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to use ethnic militias to protest for the removal of Mr. Jega.

But Mr. Adams accused the APC and Lai Mohammed, its National Publicity Secretary, of peddling falsehood, adding that Monday’s protest was peaceful.

“Nobody was attacked. Lai Muhammed should stop peddling lies against our members,” Mr. Adams said.

“Nobody touched their bill boards. It’s the most peaceful rally I have seen. Even they, APC, cannot hold a peaceful as successful rally ‎as that. As a matter of fact, over 30 Nollywood stars took part in the rally including myself.”

“Against Yoruba interest”

Another faction of the OPC responded swiftly and angrily on Monday, accusing Mr. Adams of betraying the group and the Yoruba people.

“We, the members of the National Coordinating Council of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, the highest ruling body of the organization, wish to disassociate ourselves from the shameful, destructive, violent and reactionary activities of the Gani Adam-led team which occurred in Lagos today,” the group said in a statement.

“What was witnessed today in Lagos was the highest level of political violence sponsored and funded by certain elements in the Jonathan government.

“Gani Adams is on his own and does not enjoy the support of a large size of our membership spread across the country. He is working for the sponsors of violence against our people who want the March 28 elections not to hold. Unleashing terror on innocent citizens and killing them is not the way of democracy. It is not our idea of a people-oriented advocacy.”

In 2013, the Mr. Adams-led faction of the OPC secured a lucrative contract from the federal government to secure crude oil pipelines in the South West.

At the time, Mr. Adams justified the contract by claiming that President Jonathan had also awarded similar contracts to Niger Delta militants and that the OPC deserved its share.

“For a group that has been doing a lot of things for the society free of charge, it is not too much to apply for a security job,” Mr. Adams had said.

Monday’s meeting of the OPC faction was attended by Shina Akinpelu, Monsuru Akande, Sunday Adebayo, Kilanko Oladipupo, Kehinde Ogunyale, and Gbenga Eegunlusi.

In its statement, the faction accused Mr. Adams of being on “dubious project” and using the pipeline contract from the government as an excuse to recruit people to work for Mr. Jonathan and PDP in the South West.

“Gani Adams is acting against Yoruba interest. The compromises he has made amounts to selling the Yoruba to the present government for a piece of Pipeline contract to line his pockets,” the group said.

“OPC is not about pipeline contracts or any other contracts for that matter. The Yoruba interest is beyond contracts. We seek justice and fairness from the current government.”

The group called on Yoruba sons and daughters to join them in condemning Mr. Adams and his “anti-democratic tendencies.”

“We must renounce him and remind him he cannot sell the Yoruba race to Jonathan and PDP on the cheap. He also has no authority to speak on behalf of the Yoruba people,” they said.

“We pity those who rely on him to win votes. They will be sorely disappointed. Their investment is a bad one already. We reject today and always any attempt to use our organization and its members for narrow and selfish partisan purposes.

“We must remind them that the Yoruba people cannot be hoodwinked by sweeteners. No one should expect them to kow tow to an individual who is a Lilliputian in the political development and history of the Yoruba nation.”

While renouncing Mr. Adams and his activities, the group also renounced other Yoruba sons and daughters who are playing roles inimical to the welfare and interest of the South West.

“We call on our people to be vigilant politically at this time. Nigeria needs a new leadership, a new direction and a country that works.”
