Money Laundering: Obasanjo Foundation sacks Trustee, Reports Her To UK Police
The Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation on Friday said it has fired a member
of its Board of Trustees, Anne Welsh, following shocking reports that
she plotted to help some Lebanese businessmen to launder millions of
dollars.
A new video obtained by SaharaReporters and published Thursday suggested Mrs. Welsh “operated a well-oiled money-laundering scheme for many years”.
In the video, which the news website said was discreetly shot by one of the participants at a meeting in the United Kingdom in December 2014, Ms. Welsh was seen negotiating a $4.9 million money laundering scheme that would have seen her pocket about a million dollars.
She was seen exploiting the Ebola Virus Disease tragedy in West Africa to help a group of “Lebanese businessmen” who wished to donate money to the Obasanjo Foundation for some work in Sierra Leone.
The group, the video indicates, explained it would make the donation on one condition: the Obasanjo Foundation would get $2m, as long as it helps launder the balance of $2.9m.
But when contacted Friday, the Founder/Chairman of the Foundation, Olusegun Obasanjo, said he, other trustees of the organization as well as staff of the Foundation were deeply saddened and disturbed by the allegations against Mrs. Weish
“Accordingly, the Board of Trustees has asked her to immediately resign, and she has done so.” Mr. Obasanjo said on telephone.
The former Nigerian President also said the Foundation has launched a full-scale investigation into the allegations and has already reported the matter to the London Metropolitan Police and the UK Charity Commission for a thorough probe.
“We have asked the two authorities to investigate the matter exhaustively,” Mr. Obasanjo said.
The former President also said his Foundation had already contacted personalities mentioned or photographed with Mrs Welsh in the publication that revealed the deal as well as other dignitaries and partners to inform them that” she has now become a persona non grata with the Foundation and its Chairman/Founder”.

I Have Cogent Evidence Muazu Betrayed PDP - Fayose
The crisis in PDP seems to be growing deeper, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has also come out to defend his call for the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he has evidence the party’s national chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, helped the opposition win recent elections.
Fayose, who disclosed this in a statement by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, said “In saner climes, when a war commander leads his troops to an embarrassing defeat, such commander does not need anyone to tell him that he needs to leave the war front for another commander to take over.”
While describing the attack on his person by the NWC as unfortunate, Fayose said it was sad that the NWC members, especially Mu’azu were refusing to allow new people to manage the party after managing it to its first national electoral failure.
“How do we explain the PDP losing so scandalously in Bauchi State, despite the presence of the national chairman, federal capital territory minister and the state governor?” he asked.
“I am even more particular about the National Chairman because he sold the party to the opposition. I have cogent evidences of his unholy alliance with the opposition before the elections and if they go any further, I will expose all his underhand deals.
“I want to say it again that I have no apology for calling for the resignation of the NWC members, especially the National Chairman. After all, someone resigned his position as the National Chairman for Alhaji Mu’azu to assume office,” he stated.
Fayose said his call for the dissolution of the Adamu Mu’azu-led NWC of PDP was in good faith, and in the overall interest of the party.
”I have no apology on my position on the NWC because their responsibility as a party does not take away their failure in the last general elections,” he said.
Fayose said he was committed to the PDP and would continue to defend the party even as the last member remaining.
“If it remains only me, I will continue to defend the course of this party because some people are born to stand up at difficult times, and I believe I am one such people born to stand up for the PDP at this difficult time.
