Justin Bieber Set To Release Another Movie
Justin Bieber has released the trailer for his second documentary simply titled: "Believe" which will be released on Christmas Day.
Bieber has had his string of bad press lately, but he's looking to turn that around with this new documentary revealing what it's like growing up in the spotlight as one of the biggest pop stars on the planet.
Bieber was the subject of a previous documentary, "Never Say Never," in 2011, which grossed $73 million (the third highest grossing documentary of all time). "Believe" looks like it picks up Bieber's story from the last doc and will probably be high on any Belieber's Christmas list.

Anambra Election Could Not Be Concluded Due To Logistics - INEC
The governorship election held in Anambra State on Saturday could not be concluded. The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission attributed the development to logistics problems.
Elections in 65 polling units in Idemili North Local Government Area were cancelled. The Public Relations Officer of the state electoral commission, Mr. Frank Egbo, who confirmed the cancellation to SUNDAY PUNCH, said, “The election was cancelled because of logistics issues. The elections will be conducted Sunday (today)in those areas,”
Meanwhile, some of the early results received are as follows: Atupolum Unit 003, Nimo Ward in Njikoka LGA, APGA 64; APC 32. Atupolum Unit 004, Nimo Ward, Njikoka Local Government Area: APGA 84; APC 28. At Arroma Unit 1, Awka South Local Government Area: APGA 45; APC 25; Arroma Unit 2; APGA 34; APC 33. Permanent Site Government House, Awka: APGA 50; APC 51. Ogidi Town Hall Idemili North LGA: APGA 23; APC 58; PDP 22. Polling Unit 010: Ogidi Town Hall: APGA 8; APC39; PDP 14.
Nimo Ward 3, Njikoka LGA results were as follows: APGA 639; APC 246: PDP 179; LP 26 and PPA 7.
SUNDAY PUNCH gathered that 349 collation and returning officers were brought in from Calabar, but the Cross River State Resident Electoral Officer, Mr. Mike Igini, who was one of the 15 RECs invited to coordinate the Anambra election, was conspicuously absent.
Though the election was peaceful in most of the places covered by SUNDAY PUNCH, there were serious complaints of irregularities in areas where opposition candidates had strong support base.
The candidate of the PDP, Mr. Tony Nwoye, could not vote at the Offia Nta Nsugbe Ward 1 unit 008 because he could not find his name on the voter register.
“We couldn’t even find the names of my father, my mother my uncle and wife on the register. When I first came at 10am this morning, the INEC officials told me they would trace the anomaly and rectify it,” he said.
Nwoye returned to the polling unit at 3:30pm to still find out that nothing could be done about his name missing in the register. He said out of the 500 names on the register, only fifty people could find their names.
Similarly, Mr. Arthur Eze, a major financier of the PDP also could not find his name on the voter register at his polling station at Ukpo Ward, Dunukofia Local Government Area.
Electoral materials were on Saturday in short supplies in most of the polling units in the stronghold of the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Dr. Chris Ngige, and his Labour Party counterpart, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah.
While Ngige had lamented that the attempt was aimed at reducing the votes in his areas of strength, Ubah had alleged sabotage by the electoral body.
Ngige said he felt betrayed by INEC, which had promised during the stakeholders meeting to make materials available at the voting early enough. He said the intention of INEC was to prevent his supporters from voting.
SUNDAY PUNCH observed that there were no result sheets in most of the polling units visited in Alor and Uke in Idemili South.
It was also gathered that the National Youth Service Corps members who were used as presiding officers in Idemili North LGA, which is a strong base of Ngige, embarked on strike in the early hours of the day on the pretext that they were not paid their allowances.
According to Ngige, who spoke shortly after casting his vote at about 1:30pm, the shortage of electoral materials was a deliberate attempt to reduce his votes in his stronghold.
It was gathered that most voters in the affected places could not find their names in the voter register, even as it was discovered that the few places were electoral materials arrived had no result sheets.
Ngige said, “From the reports reaching me directly, we discovered that there is a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise Awka South, Idemili North, Idemili South, Dunukofia among others. Idemili North alone has 180, 000 voters.
“With this, we can say that there is a deliberate attempt to suppress the wishes of Anambra central people. I don’t have confidence on the Resident Electoral Commissioner when I contested in 2010 and I have petitioned INEC that he should not be allowed to conduct this election. Why is it in my strongholds that the NYSC ad-hoc staff will go on strike?”
Ngige had drawn the attention of international observers from the European Union to the shortage of materials in his strongholds.
He told the observers that the short supply was a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise his supporters in his strongholds.
Also speaking at his Nnewi home, Ubah lamented that most eligible voters at his Nnewi Ichi ward 2 polling unit were disenfranchised.
“What I can say is that there are a lot of inconsistencies, especially on the voter register. For instance, in a ward that has about 700 voters, you will discover that only seventeen names will be found in the register. This situation does not speak well and does signal that we will have a free and fair exercise,” Ubah added.
Similarly, the candidate the Progressive Peoples Alliance, Chief Godwin Ezeemo regretted the late commencement of accreditation at his Umuchu Ward 1 polling unit.
He said the late commencement of accreditation may have caused the voter apathy witnessed in the election.
Ezeemo also said that he had lost hope in the whole process, as he believed the election and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission had been compromised.
He said, ‘’For me, I am just going out there to vote and fulfil all righteousness as I don’t expect anything good to come out of this.’’
At Igbo-Ukwu in Aguata Local Government Area, the former governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwumeka Ezeife, described the election as not important to the people of the state.
Ezeife said that those who should have been the best candidates were schemed out of the process, saying Anambra indigenes had no option but to accept whoever emerges.
He said, “As it is now, we have no other option but to accept whosoever God gives to us and keep praying that all will be well with Anambra State.”
Ezeife, however, stated that future elections in the state would be totally different from the election. “With the proposed national dialogue, I am very confident that things would work for the better and the next election in Anambra State would be devoid of these irregularities,’ he said.

Anambra Polls: Nollywood Star, Bob Manuel Declares Victory For APGA
Nollywood actor, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, says the All Progressives Grand Alliance is already celebrating the possible victory of Willie Obiano at yesterday’s Anambra State governorship election.
Udokwu said in Awka, after voting, that the celebration became necessary because most Nollywood actors hail from the state and most of them cast their votes for Obiano.
He added most of them saw the need for continuity and cast their votes for the APGA candidate.
He dismissed fears that Nollywood stars from the state voted for other candidates at the last minute, having honoured their invitations for parleys just before the election.
“Some people play to the gallery, and some people answer calls for inducements. If that was the case, then it does not imply that most of them decided to change their minds at the eleventh hour,” said Udokwu.
He asked, “Do any of them (the other candidates) plan for the industry? I don’t think so. Otherwise, why didn’t they invite them (Nollywood practitioners) for the dinners before now?”
“For them to have invited them for dinners hurriedly organised, it shows the desperation. They just want to be seen taking pictures with my colleagues – the Nollywood stars.
“Every one of us is wise, it would not pay to vote against APGA government that has strived to ensure the growth of the industry.”
Udokwu said continuity was what was needed in Anamnbra State.
He said, “Willie Obiano is just the best man to succeed Governor Peter Obi. He has a distinguished career in money management; he knows what is best for Anambra.
“He had worked with Governor Obi for over 10 years in the banking industry. He surely knows how best to consolidate on the existing programmes and projects.”
He added, “I tell my colleagues that it is not all about inducements, but about collective growth.
“Those who were inviting actors for dinners whenever they wanted something in the past were only interested in self actualisation, not collective growth.”
“As the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Obi on Creative Media, I have submitted proposals on how we can fast-track the growth of the industry and the government is already working on that.”

ASUU STRIKE UPDATE: NEC Meeting Or Not, Strike Cant Be Called Off Yet
ASUU STRIKE UPDATE: No Matter The Outcome of NEC Meeting Today, ASUU Can’t Suspend The Strike – Hon. Olasunkanmi Ahmed
I wonder why some people can’t just read between the lines. Instead spread Channels news that is not new or researched….120 voted to suspend, when it was 120 universities did voted, Uniuyo, Uniben and few voted no while majority voted yes.
How come they are still 120 that voted yes? I think we need to get proper information to disseminate to avoid giving some people unnecessary hypertension. No matter the outcome of NEC meeting, ASUU can’t suspend the strike until the government sign the new agreement in line with condition put forward by them(except if all will be done this weekend, which is not possible), which state that NASS, minister of finance, CBN governor, NLC, Labour minister and some others must be a signatory to the agreement to avoid David Mark and others question on the intelligent of those who signed 2009 Agreement.
And ASUU had said this over and over before. Never will ASUU or even any reasonable person do an act which involve another party without the other party concurring to such action formally. ASUU has a procedure in embarking and suspending of a strike and until we understand this, many will continue to be victims of fake news, propaganda or na-me-post-am-first syndrome affecting many people on facebook.
The NEC meeting is to look at the report of each chapters and condition attached to those that said Yes and likewise look into the chapters that said No, then resolved the issue and come out with a final decision( which is likely to favour suspension) then inform the government and wait for those signatories to sign, then announcement of suspension will be done by ASUU.
Hopefully, this strike will come to an end this month as reality totally kill any hope of this weekend.

This came even when when the NEC meeting was said not to hold yesterday and will not hold until after the 7 days mourning
Asuu NEC Meeting Update: NEC Meeting Never Hold - Asuu Chairman
Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in the University of Ibadan, has confirmed that stories which made the rounds on Saturday, that the National Executive Council, NEC, would hold an emergency meeting in Kano, were false.
Ajiboye was speaking in an interview on Diamond FM, University of Ibadan and stated that no meeting was scheduled for today, as they were still in the middle of a seven-day morning, which was declared in honour of the late Professor Festus Iyayi, a former national chairman of the Union.
It would be recalled that Iyayi lost his life in a fatal crash, on his way to Bayero University, Kano, where members of ASUU were to meet and reach a final decision, on whether to continue with the strike or accept the federal government’s offer.

9ice Talks About Seriki And Kayefi Leaving Alapomeji
Alapomeji boss , 9ice has finally cleared the air on why his proteges left his Alapomeji Records label. In an exclusive interview , the Pop singer says they were free to leave because he didn’t sign any contract with them.
The ‘Ike kan’ singer further explained that he created Alapomeji to serve as a platform for upcoming artistes to only exhibit their talents and move on from there. He likens it to having ID Cabasa when he was upcoming.
‘…It’s like a flag bearer where you can lift people up. I wish there was Alapomeji when I was growing up. When I was growing all I had was a brother who believed in me and he helped me’.
‘What I did then was putting them on as upcoming artistes. If you ask anyone of them, I never signed an agreement with anyone. I didn’t sign them on, all I did was give them a platform whereby they can exhibit their talent to let people know about them, their content and if they deem it fit to move on they can go and that’s what they did when they all left’, 9ice told Nigerian Entertainment Today during a visit to the newspaper.
The singer also revealed that he’s pretty cool with all of them, when we asked if they still talk.
‘Yes we do. We talk all the time we call and talk, we still meet at shows’, 9ice says.

Gov Sule Lamido Soft Pedal On Son Release, Says We will Take Our ecase To God
November 14, 2013, Thursday, can be marked as a black day for the family of the Governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, as two of his sons, Mustapha Lamido, the District Head of Bamaina, and his elder brother, Aminu Lamido, were taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the allegation of money laundering.
The duo was picked up in their separate homes in Kano on Thursday’s night and were flown to Abuja by the Anti-graft agency for further investigation.
According to the sources of Saturday Vanguard, Mustapha Lamido, alumnus of University of Abuja, and his elder brother, Aminu Lamido, who is also a 2010 mass communication graduate from Bayero University Kano, were been investigated for alleged money laundering to the tune of N11billion.
The development is coming on the heel of arrest and conviction of Aminu Sule Lamido July 12th 2013 by a Federal High Court in Kano for laundering $50,000 US Dollars.
The Governor of Jigawa state, who has already arrived to Sokoto ahead of Saturday’s Rotimi Amaechi faction of Governor’s forum retreat, was forced to return to Abuja to confront the development.
“I must confess to you that Lamido is completely shattered by the development and has sacrificed every other schedule at the moment to confront the emergency.
“Lamido is too passionate about his children and he would do everything at this trying moment to secure their freedom,” a source close to the Governor revealed.
Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC spokesman, confirmed that two persons were arrested in Kano for money laundering, and investigation was on.
In the meantime, uneasy calm pervades the ancestral home of Lamido Friday as the news filtered in that their District head popularly referred to as Hakimi, Mustapha Lamido and his elder brother, Aminu Sule has been nabbed by EFCC over money laundering.
Most respondents who appeared piqued by the turn of event were of the opinion that the arrest was politically motivated as they stressed that “we believe in prayers and we would take our case to God for his intervention”.

INTERVIEW: My Mum Taught Me All Me About Fashion - Alex Ekubo
In an interview with punch, model and a Nollywood actor Alex ekubo talks about his fashion and style...read below
Do you think there is a difference between style and fashion?
Yes. Fashion is the general trend while style is personal. What is trending might not suit your individual style. So, it is best to find what works for you; that’s style. It is your personal style.
What influences your style?
There are several factors that influence my style; my body type, comfort, skin colour and image. They all contribute to building my personal style. I always want to be as comfortable as possible in whatever I wear. While picking what suits my body structure, it must complement my skin colour and everything that creates my image. As it is said, ‘Dress how you want to be addressed.’
What do you love wearing, casuals or suits or even native attires?
I rock all of these very well. Being a model has helped me greatly in this area, because as a runway and photo model, we are taught to know that our body is a hanger. So, we have to make whatever is given to us work.
What is your fashion weakness?
Perfumes, wristwatch, shoes, all three of them are my weakness. However, I would give perfumes a higher preference. I love to look fresh and smell good; it creates a lasting impression.
What is that fashion item you cannot leave home without?
I can’t leave home without a good scent on.
What is the most expensive fashion item you own and how much did it cost?
For modesty’s sake, let’s not talk about price; let’s just say I own some very good watches, shoes and perfumes.
What fashion item do you admire on a lady?
I love a lady that smells good. I’m really sorry this interview is starting to sound like a paid perfume advert, but that is because you can’t overemphasise how important it is to smell good, a good smelling lady can get a lot from me.
When shopping, do you buy made in Nigeria brands?
I make it a point of duty to buy and encourage Nigerian designers. They are doing really great work and matching their foreign counterparts. As a matter of fact, all my suits are homemade. I don’t own a single foreign suit, and trust me I own quite a lot of suits. I think it is the greatest act of patriotism that Nigerians buy made in Nigeria goods.
Are you still into modelling or you have quit it for acting?
Once a model, always a model, I can never quit modelling. Tyson Beckford, the world famous model, is 42 and still ripping runways and adorning billboards the world over. I’m just getting warmed up.
How long have you been a model?
I’ve been modelling professionally for over three years now, after my emergence as the runner-up in the second Mr. Nigeria contest in 2010.
Has been a model helped to enhance your style?
Being a model has hugely influenced my style. I have been exposed to a lot of designers, creativity and style in the fashion world. It’s a really colourful and talent-filled world, and I’m overjoyed to be a part of it.
Do you think you would have been more popular than this in the entertainment scene if you had emerged the winner of Mr. Nigeria 2010?
I would like to say a huge thank you to the Bruce Family and Silverbird for creating the Mr. Nigeria platform. It is upon which I stand and spring forth to greater heights, regardless of being a runner up. I am happy with my position and I believe I have been able to rise above that and keep the flag flying. Hopefully, the Silverbird family are proud of me, as I would always remain a loyal brand ambassador to the organisation that started me off in the entertainment world with some good credit.
What is the best fashion item gift you have ever got?
Sometime last year, I got a customised pair of shoes from a young Nigerian shoe designer, Chibuzor Bosah of PUSH. It was an exclusive range and it had my name on it. While I gave my friend a customised tee shirt from Micheal Chibogx Outfit “ Thots On Tees “ and I think the friend greatly appreciated it.
When stepping out for an event, what do you bear in mind when it comes to dressing?
Comfort. My comfort is very paramount to me. Most of these events run into hours and I want to be comfortable as well as good looking. I don’t want to have to run to the bathroom every second to adjust my shoe or outfit.
Share some common errors you see men make that irk you?
Not just men but people in general; people dress in outfits that are very tight. Cut yourself some slack, give your body room to breathe; fashion is not that serious.
While growing up, would you consider yourself a fashionable kid?
Yes, my mum, Mrs. Jane Ekubo-Okwaraeke, is a very fashionable woman. She even owns her fashion label. She raised me up to match my colours and taught me all I know about fashion and style.
When it comes to fashion, did you take after your father or your mother?
My Mother is the fashionista of the family. My Dad really can’t be bothered.
Being a fashionable person, have you considered having a clothing line or venturing into fashion fully?
My style is ‘preppy’ yet classy. I would not mind having a clothing line. Life is all about sharing and it is humbling to know that people appreciate my sense of style and want to emulate it. The least I can do is to give them a chance to do that.
Do you agree that men can’t experiment with colours and clothes like women?
Well, today’s men wear those daring colours and pull them off well. Colouring in style is relative; a colour that makes me might mar you, but I’m of the opinion that colour is unisex.
Being a fashionable person, you would get hit-on a lot by women. What are some hilarious pick-up lines you have heard from a lady?
A lady once called me and said, ‘hey you’re doing really well in your career as an actor, you are making giant strides, why don’t you come over to my house let me stroke the giant in your pants.’ I think that was hilarious and cute, but I give her a hundred per cent for originality. Some ladies have gone as far as writing my mum on social media, telling her how great a daughter in-law they would be, listing their qualities begging my mum to convince me to give them a chance. A lot of them send me indecent photos and proposals, telling me of things they want to do to my body.
How do you cope with female fans?
I handle them politely and as mature as I possibly can. I’m a grown man so, I make grown up choices.

Pasuma Releases Press Statement On Murder Scandal
Fuji music icon, Otunba Wasiu Alabi Pasuma reacting to recent report that he killed a fan at one of his private gigs in Lagos has released a press statement to clear his name.
In a statement made available through his manager, Afolabi Oyekoya, the singer denied killing anybody
The statement reads thus:
“On October 24th I had a show somewhere around idimu and as usual there were quite a lot of people there. After my performance I made for my car after settling the area boys with a large sum of money. Definitely, I had to zoom off because I didn’t want them to mob me. I left the venue and drove straight to my house. Later that night, I heard someone was killed at the show. I was surprised because people don’t fight at my shows. It was later explained to me that the young man was killed by policemen. I tried to get details of the incident and that was when I gathered that one of the boys hung on to my car before I drove off.
He was said to have fallen off and started running after my car for reasons I don’t know. I didn’t even notice anyone was running after my car. Simultaneously, the policemen were driving fast behind me to get more money from me and in the process the boy was knocked down by their vehicle. When the policemen caught up with me, I gave them Money and they turned back. As at that time I was not even aware something had happened and I drove off. Later that night, I was informed that a boy was killed by the policemen and my manager Afolabi Oyekoya has been trying to get in touch with the deceased family. If those that reported the incident, did actually visit the police station or hospital the boy was taken to, they would have found out the truth. The question is ,Did my car hit the boy? Did my car have any contact with the boy ? Was I even aware of anything ?
The policemen were said to have taken the boy to the hospital or their station and had communicated with the family. It was reported that the policemen were part of my convoy but the truth is they were never part of my convoy. I didn’t go to the show with any security except my bodyguards. I feel comfortable around area boys or whatsoever you choose to call them, I have no reason to move around with policemen. I didn’t hit anyone with my car, neither did any of my convoy . Where is the story coming from. I didn’t want to make any press statement but have been forced to because it is obvious some bloggers are trying to make a mess of my name. Do we now live in a country where people believe they can just write something about you and get away with it. Hmmm !
If I was truly involved in a murder case I would have been invited to the police station for questioning . Have I been asked to write a report at the police station? Have I been arrested ? We are talking about someone’s life here? My management AO21 Media have been making efforts to reach the family of the deceased not because we were involved in his death but because he was a fan of Pasuma wonder.

EFCC Arrests Governor's Son Over Fraud
Aminu and Mustapha Lamido were arrested on Thursday in Kano and flown to Abuja on Friday morning, and are currently being interrogated at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja by a crack team of detectives.
The arrest of the governor’s sons, insiders say, is in furtherance of the investigation that commenced in December 2012 when Aminu Sule Lamido was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano Airport en route Cairo, Egypt for failure to declare the $50,000 he had on him. Although Aminu has since been prosecuted and convicted by a Federal High Court in Kano, investigation as to how he came by the money has led investigations to uncover a web of money laundering in which billions of naira from Jigawa state govt accounts are funnelled into the accounts of companies run by the Jigawa state governor and his 2sons.
Over N10billion is said to have been transferred from Jigawa state government accounts into the accounts in which Sule Lamido and his two sons have interest from 2007 till date.
The Commission is said to have traced these transfers to 10 companies where Lamido and sons are directors and signatories to the account.
The companies include Bamaina Alluminium Limited, Bamaina Holdings Limited, Bamaina Company Nigeria Limited, Rawda Integrated Services Limited, Speeds International Limited and Saby Integrated Nigeria Limited.
The account of these companies received huge cash inflow between 2007 and 2013, a period that coincide with the tenure of Sule Lamido as governor of Jigawa state. For instance in Bamaina Aluminium where Sule Lamido and his two sons are directors, investigations revealed that the company’s account controlled by Mustapha as signatory received total credit of N1.52billion between January 2010 and August 2013. It recorded a total debit of the same amount, with Mustapha and other companies in which Lamido and his sons are directors, being the beneficiaries.
In the same vein, Bamaina Holdings Limited’s account with the governor as sole signatory received a total of N1.19billion between February 2007 and July 2013.
About N1billion was paid from this account into accounts of companies controlled by the governor and his sons.
Massive lodgements were also discovered in the account of Bamaina Company Nigeria limited controlled by Mustapha as sole signatory from Bamaina Alluminium. Between January 2010 and July 2013, the account received over N500million.
From the account of Rawda Integrated Services Limited controlled by Mustapha, there have also been massive movement of funds to another company run by Sule Lamido, Speeds International Limited. Speeds’ account recorded a turnover ofN2.2billion between January 2007 and February 2010.
In the account of Rawda with a new generation bank investigators discovered the movement of N2.6billion to an unknown signatory.
That account recorded over one hundred withdrawals running to over N600milion in cash between November 2007 and April 2008.
Saby Integrated Services Nigeria Limited, another company owned by Lamido received over N730million from several Jigawa State government agencies between June 2010 and August 2010.

Karen Igho To Yvonne Nelson: You Have Been Passed Around Enough By Nigerian Men
Few weeks ago, Yvonne Nelson made fun of Karen’s boobs and also insulted some Nigerian celebs on twitter, but claimed her account was hacked. Karen later went in hard on her, and even told her she has been passed round enough by Nigerian men. Again, Karen is speaking. Here is what she said to Victor Eneged when asked about the incident.
Let me break it down first and foremost, I don’t know Yvonne Nelson and I have never met her. I heard she is a Ghanaian actress. I don’t hate on anyone who is trying to make a living but you just can’t come out of the blue and insult me. Everybody knows I’m not troublesome. If you look for my trouble I would give you double. Why would you just insult Nigerian celebs and myself, ‘wetin I do you na?’It’s not like we’ve met before. Attention seekers should go and look for the attention elsewhere.
If your account was hacked with a verified account they won’t tweet personal messages at celebs. They would try and send viruses and spam and keep on hacking. You don’t say Karen has been quiet and try to take shots at her. Right now, I don’t even care any more because they are attention seekers who when they can’t get attention from men, they try to get it from women. The best thing is to ignore them. If indeed your account was hacked, you would look for my contact and call me and apologize or apologize to Nigerians or mention at me on twitter and apologize personally. I hope the girl has learnt her lesson that if you want to be famous you do it the right way. God has blessed you and put you where you are so work on how to succeed and not look for ways to belittle other people.

Can Crisis: We May Not Own Jet, But We Are Men Of Unquestionable Character , pastors Blast Oritsejafor
Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, from the Niger Delta, under the aegis of Global Peace Relief Initiative, led by Prophet Jones Erue, have slammed President of the association, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, over what they described as the unacceptable comments made against them, following their attempts to reconcile the G-7 governors with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In a statement, yesterday, by the group, the Niger Delta pastors described Oritsejafor’s comment to the effect that CAN was apolitical, as laughable, accusing the CAN President of getting involved in politics of calumny and name dropping.
“We are disappointed that a leader could sit and watch his two children fight while the rest of us suffer only to come and blackmail those who take their time to seek solutions to the crisis,” the group said, warning that no amount of blackmail or intimidation would deter them from the noble mission of rescuing the country from imminent collapse.
“It is surprising that Pst Ayo Oritsejafor, the CAN president will handle issues of immense gravity and national importance hastily, with levity and without discretion. The first and easiest thing to know about a man is his name; it is a pity that the CAN president does not know the name of the group of clerics he is addressing nor their affiliates.
“Expecting him to have minimal knowledge on what they stand for, will be tantamount to exerting too much pressure on his aging gray matter. We are begging his aides and personal assistants to do their job well and stop exposing this great man of God to disrepute.
“These eminent clerics and their affiliate, Global Peace and Relief Initiative have taken on a laudable project of consulting across all interest group and stakeholders concerning the Nigerian project. Nigeria is the only country we can call our own and as fathers we cannot fold our hands and watch intolerance and impunity destroy our nation.
“To place the records straight, we have not made promises to any persons and we have not used the name of CAN, we have an affiliate whose mission and vision best defines our activity. We are noble men and do not rail accusation on authorities.
“It is a pity that the handlers of the CAN president have allowed miscreants, to drag him into a show of shame, misinformed the press and overlaboured the corporate affairs commission with a futile search.
“If we may ask, whose registration were they authenticating? A group they barely know its name? This is a faith based Non Governmental Organisation, NGO, with memberships spread across the nation. Our main business is advocacy, conflict prevention/ resolution and facilitation of peace projects whether individual, group, organisation or government. We create a good soil for developmental projects and people oriented policies to thrive
“For the CAN president to say CAN is apolitical is laughable, as the same president is involved in politics of calumny and name dropping.
“The CAN’s statement as reported by the media does not represent the facts on ground but a mere imagination. Calling names at this critical period of the nation’s political development does not represent the responsibility expected of a great leader of Pastor Ayo Oritsejeafor’s capacity.
“We want to place it on record that the Bishops and Clerics in this body may not own private jets but are men of unquestionable character, dependable leaders, and stewards of peace and holders of reputable degrees. The leader of this group Prophet Jones Ode Erue is a highly respected both in political and religious circles. Many people have benefited from the peace initiatives by this great icon since 2002 till date.
“When men lack purpose and relevance, rather than encourage others with vision and purpose they become detractors of good and well meaning Nigerians. “ We are disappointed that a leader could sit and fold his hands and watch his two children fight while the rest of us suffer only to come and blackmail those who take their time to seek solutions to the crisis.
“The forum wishes to state emphatically that no amount of cheap blackmail or intimidation can deter it from this noble mission to rescue the country from the imminent collapse which can be averted. “We are duty bound to restore peace and unity to our dear country, Nigeria.
“We will continue with the ongoing consultation with all stake holders in the task of putting Nigeria back to the road, to national unity and development,” the statement read.
Versity Lecturers Chased Kogi Gorvernor Away From Hospital
Angry leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities allegedly chased away the Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada (retd.) from the emergency ward of the Lokoja General Hospital on Tuesday.
Wada had gone to the hospital to visit their injured colleague, Dr. Ngozi Ilo, and commiserate with them over the death of their former President, Prof. Festus Iyayi, in an accident involving his convoy and an ASUU vehicle on Tuesday.
Continue after the break.
The Chairman, University of Benin chapter of ASUU, Dr. Anthony Monye-Emina; and the Benin Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Sunny Iyalo, had minor injuries and were therefore not admitted into the hospital. The ASUU leaders, including the National President, Dr. Biodun Ogunyemi; the Ibadan Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Nassir Adesola; the Chairman, Lagos State University chapter of the union, Dr. Adekunle Idris; Monye-Emina; Iyalo and lecturers from the Federal University Lokoja however sent the governor away from the hospital’s emergency ward.
Their grouse was Wada’s late response to the accident and the uncaring attitude he allegedly displayed towards the union leaders involved in the accident. They also accused him of trying to make a political gain out of their misfortune. Idris, who confirmed that Wada was chased out of the emergency ward, said, “We are surprised that a state governor could resort to telling lies because contrary to the claim by his spokesperson that he showed care towards our colleagues, he did not.
“Somebody that did not stop after his convoy killed our leader; somebody that did not come to the hospital until some minutes to 5pm(on Tuesday) after the accident that happened around 11am could not be said to be caring.
“That was why we chased him out of the emergency ward of the hospital and we also prevented him from seeing Prof. Iyayi’s corpse in the mortuary.
“We are not happy with the fact that he came very late to the hospital and the fact that when he came, his press crew attempted to take photograph and video record of Dr. Ilo, who is our national welfare secretary. We stopped them because that was the height of insensitivity.
“Somebody that could not provide us with an ambulance cannot be said to be caring. We had to call UNIBEN for an ambulance that took Ilo to the UNIBEN Teaching Hospital while our colleagues from the Federal University, Lokoja, with the assistance of the vice-chancellor, gave us the ambulance that was used to convey the remains of Prof. Iyayi to Benin.”
Idris added that though Wada left the hospital “like a gentleman,” some of his overzealous security aides tried to be naughty.
He said,
“Some of the policemen that followed him to the hospital wanted to be naughty but we lectured them. The hospital workers and the residents of Lokoja who witnessed how we chased the governor away were happy.”
Also, Adesola expressed dismay at the efforts made by the governor to rewrite the incident.
He said, “It was actually the last of the governor’s convoy that veered off the road and ran into a vehicle that was conveying Iyayi and others.
“When the governor’s convoy came with noise and harassment, everyone on the road moved to the side of the road for them to pass but unfortunately, the governor’s aide has told the world that an ASUU vehicle was avoiding a trailer and ran into their escort vehicle.
“What manner of reckless lying is that? The front of the ASUU bus remains intact except for the windscreen that broke. Iyayi was sitting at the back of the bus and the escort van ran into it.
The most annoying part is that the incident occurred around 11am and the governor did not even visit the hospital until around 5pm.
“He came with a large number of pressmen and security aides and was attempting to make some political capital out of our misfortune.
“We actually had to chase him away from the emergency ward where our welfare secretary was still receiving treatment .”
But Jacob Edi, the Special Adviser, Media and Strategy to Wada, claimed that the ASUU leaders did not chase his boss away from the hospital. Edi, who in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, insisted that Wada was not indifferent to the plight of the accident victims, however, stated that the union officials were not friendly.
He said,
“When the governor went to the hospital, the ASUU people had a kind of adverse reaction to the governor. But they did not chase away the governor. Nobody chased away anybody.”
The governor’s spokesman added that the state government would not want to be involved in controversy over the death of the former ASUU president. He stated that Wada was pained by the accident and had been sympathising with the bereaved families and the survivors.
It was however not only the ASUU leaders that lambasted the governor over the accident, the Nigeria Labour Congress, a former President of the Trade Union Congress, Mr. Peter Esele and an ex-Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Abubakar Tsav, also did.
They described Wada’s convoy as reckless and demanded the prosecution of the driver of the escort vehicle that caused the accident on the Lokoja-Abuja Road. The NLC, in a statement in Abuja by its National President, Mr. Abdulwahed Omar, described the death of Iyayi as avoidable. It also blamed the Federal Government for its neglect of the road. The NLC said its position was that the federal and Kogi State governments were responsible for Iyayi’s death.
It said that 10 years after the contract for the rehabilation of the Lokoja-Abuja Road was awarded, it had been turned to a death trap. The NLC said, “Iyayi’s death leaves a sour taste in the mouth and it is totally avoidable. It is blameable, lawlessness/impunity on the part of the Kogi State governor, who is fast acquiring for himself an accident-prone reputation. The congress therefore advised “siren-blowing and terror-dealing convoys” to be conscious of other road users. It called on the Federal Roads Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police to ensure that those behind the accident were brought to justice.
Esele and Tsav urged the relevant authorities to ensure that the convoy driver involved in the accident was prosecuted. They spoke in different telephone interviews with our correspondents.
According to them, Wada has a responsibility to caution his drivers as his convoy has become reputed for recklessness.
Esele recalled that the convoy of the governor was involved in an accident which resulted in the death of Wada’s Aide de Camp and in which Wada was also injured. Tsav, who described the death of the former ASUU leader as unfortunate, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to meet the demands of ASUU. This, he said, would be in appreciation of the fact that Iyayi died while contributing to the development of university education in the country.
Tsav said that accidents occurred in Kogi State not because the roads in Kogi were the worst but because the drivers in the governor’s convoy were not cautious. He said that the roads were not meant only for the political office holders but for all Nigerians. He said,
“The convoy of Wada is known for being reckless; this is not the first time this is happening. It does not mean that the worst roads are in Kogi State.
“I want to appeal to him to caution his drivers, they are reckless, he should caution them to be cautious on the roads, the roads belong to every Nigerian.”
