Amuneke: We Are Making Progress

Golden Eaglets coach Emmanuel Amuneke has told News24 that his team is making progress ahead of the forthcoming FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
The Nigeria U17 coach has been speaking since Nigeria was drawn in Group A with Croatia, USA, and hosts Chile, and he now says his team has been making progress as they bid to retain the title they won two years ago in the United Arab Emirates.

“I will say we are making progress,” Amuneke told News24, “The boys are responding to what we are putting across to them and it is good progress I must say.

“We have been working on the team shape and I think we are getting there gradually and we hope to get to the shape we want before the World Cup starts,” Amuneke posited.

The Eaglets have left Abuja for Katsina, where they are expected to play series of tune up games before entering the final phase of preparations for the U17 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Amuneke, who was an assistant coach when Nigeria won the competition in the UAE in 2013, says he is not under pressure to have a similar team like in 2013.

“Every team is unique in their own way and we have to build the team around the players we have now, not around the 2013 team because there are different players involved,” he stated.
