Youths burn suspected motor cycle thief in Nasarawa | Read Details

A group of youths in Masaka, Karu local government area of Nasarawa state, on Friday burnt to death one person alleged to be a motorcycle snatcher in the area.

ASP Ismaila Umar-Numan, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, confirmed the incident when he spoke with the media in Masaka.
He also said that investigations were ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the act.

"We have received information this morning that some angry youths in Karu local government area of Nasarawa state has burnt one person to death."
"It is mob action and investigation is on to know what actually happened."
"We have mobilised our men to the scene of the incident."

"On reaching there, they discovered that the incident was true."
"It is a mob action but I want to call on the people of this area and the state at large not to take the law in to their hands," the police spokesman said.
Umar-Numan called on the people of the state to be law abiding and to live in peace.

He called on the people of the area to remain calm and to cooperate with the law enforcement agents in order to make the area and the state a free crime society for the benefit of all.

The PPRO also urged members of the public to always give vital information to the police in order to curtail criminal activities.
The media reports that an eyewitness account stated that some ‘okada’ boys at the Masaka U-turn beat and stoned the suspect to death before setting him ablaze.
