The 55-year-old actress moved to Hollywood at the age of 20 and the star says she almost immediately became involved with a bizarre sect of breatharians. A breatharian is a person who believes that people do not have to eat because the sun provides all of the nourishment needed to survive.
Michelle tells The Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine she was oblivious to her status as a cult member until her first husband Peter Horton was cast in a movie about the Moonies, followers of Rev Moon Sun-myung’s Unification Church.

Fortunately Michelle wasn’t involved with the cult for long, which was ran by a couple whom she describes as “kind of personal trainers”. Initially the star thought she was seeking the expertise of diet and exercise specialists, but to her dismay they turned out to be “very controlling”.
“They worked with weights and put people on diets. Their thing was vegetarianism,” she detailed.
“They were very controlling. I wasn’t living with them but I was there a lot and they were always telling me I needed to come more. I had to pay for all the time I was there, so it was financially very draining. They believed that people in their highest state were breatharian.”
Michelle is considered to be one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood history, but she admits that aging is taking a toll on her sense of confidence.
“The loss of youth, the loss of beauty – it definitely plays havoc with your psyche,” she said.
“There’s this transition from, 'Wow, she looks really young for her age,’ to, 'She looks great for her age.’ And there’s a big difference. I’m now at, 'She looks great for her age.’ There is certainly a mourning process to that. “I used to think I would never have surgery but it’s really hard to say never. I’m in the 'never say never’ camp now.”
